Sharrington was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1066 when it was initially referred to as Scartune or Scarnetuna. The remains of a medieval cross situated near the church illustrates its link to the pilgrim routes from the northern Norfolk ports to Walsingham. Essentially it was a farming community owned by various lords of the manor.
